BROCKHAMPTON ring leader Kevin Abstract's 'American Boyfriend' follow up has landed after a six month hiatus.
American artist Kevin Abstract has released his second studio album as a solo artist. ARIZONA Baby, originally teased with a series of EPs, has now landed in its entirety, featuring 11 tracks and appearances from rising star Dominic Fike, as well as Joba and Bearface of BROCKHAMPTON, the now famous Kevin-Abstract-fronted boyband. The LP was co-produced by Romil Hemnani (also of BROCKHAMPTON) and Jack Antonoff, perhaps best known for his production with artists like Taylor Swift, Lorde, and St. Vincent.
Abstract says the process of creating the album differed quite a bit from that of the last BROCKHAMPTON album Iridescence, noting that he “[wasn’t] really tripping about streams or sales as much,” saying that, instead, he hoped people would “identify with [his] truth.” The album revolves in large part around the rapper and singer’s sexuality as an openly gay man in the music industry, and while many have made quite a fuss about what that means for him and his music, Abstract sees it in simpler terms. “I don’t know what else to say,” he says, “I’m gay, I wrote about being gay a lot.”

Kevin Abstract’s last solo album American Boyfriend came out in 2015, and was seen by many as a breakthrough project. BROCKHAMPTON’s last album Iridescence came out in September of 2018 and debuted at #1 on the billboard albums chart, a first for the boyband, who Abstract says are now working on a new album.
