Check out the loose-jointed, horn-laden tune from The Breeders frontwoman below.
The Breeders' Kim Deal has unveiled a brand-new solo single. The sunlit, horn-laden 'Coast' was recorded with the late Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studios in Chicago. It's Deal's first single for 4AD under her own name, and you can check it out below.
The track also features Deal's twin sister Kelley, on guitar, with Lindsay Glover and Breeders album Mando Lopez dominating the rhythm section and horns from Chicago marching band Mucca Pazza.
Deal found the inspiration for 'Crash' at the wedding of her friend, O. Ring's Mike Montgomery, and watching the reception band perform Jimmy Buffet's 'Margaritaville'. That, combined with a a summer spent on Nantucket in 2000, served as her biggest inspirations for the track.
The singer-songwriter notes that the Nantucket stint was a far cry from ideal: "I hate the sun, beach and watersports.” She sings, "Oh all hold up and abandon plans for the good times / Where forgotten roads take lost lives to beautiful kids on the coast".

The track features Albini's distinct drum sound and his famed recording techniques, where he'd place dozens of microphones around the studio to catch the sonic reflections of the room. That same drum timbre weighed heavily on Pixie's seminal album, Surfer Rosa, to which Deal, one of the band's founding members, contributed bass.
Steve Albini, 61, died suddenly in May after suffering a heart attack, making this single perhaps one of his final recordings, as well as a full-circle moment for longtime Albini collaborator and Pixies alum, Kim Deal.
