With the release of the EP, King Isis has also released a music video for ‘NVR RLLY’.
King Isis has released their newest EP, Shed, as well as a music video for the last track on the record, ‘NVR RLLY’.
The EP was co-produced by Hello Yello which consists of Jaden Wiggins and Martin Rodrigues. The record was inspired by music from Gloria E. Anzaldúa. This leaves the EP having a darker and grungier sound.
The music video for ‘NVR RLLY’ was directed by Jessie Barr which follows the release of the singles ‘MAKE IT UP’ and ‘MONKI’. Shed was fully released on March 21.
King Isis takes her name from her great grandmother Omega King, one of the first Black opera singers in Chicago.
In an interview with the Hot Press Newsdesk, King Isis commented how her most memorable gig was "the first solo gig in the basement is probably one of the most memorable, because it was the first time sharing songs I wrote that were really personal to me with a bunch of strangers." The whole interview can be found here.

When talking about the track, King Isis says, “NVR RLLY is the last song on the EP and explores the unlearning of a toxic and abusive relationship…The director, Jessie Barr, fully understood this catharsis, we had great conversations about what I was trying to convey with this project. As the tension builds up throughout the song, the video parallels. Throughout the video, there’s shedding of guilt, shame, and burden of ideals I had to unlearn. It’s a visual representation of not relying on another and grounding myself in both nature and rooting myself in what I needed."
On top of the EP, King Isis will be featured in songs from Kenny Mason and Monte Booker on Pigeon & Planes’ See You Next Year 2 which will be out on April 5.
King Isis will also be performing at this year’s The Great Escape as part of the UK and EU shows this May. They will also have a headline show at Third Man Records in Soho before performing at London Calling and Outbreak festival in June.
