Main members from the influential rock band - the Davies brothers and original drummer Mick Avory - are currently in the studio recording new music.
The band is planning to revive and re-record old and unrealeased Kinks material, to the delight of their fans.
Ray and Dave Davies had fallen out many years ago but have managed to heal their relationship. Ray had been hinting at a possible reunion since June 2018, when he disclosed to The Sun that they would eventually return and work on new music.
“Dave and I will definitely work together again. And we want to play live,” he said. “Maybe The Kinks could play Glastonbury?”
While no other mention was made about possibly touring together again, a year on, guitarist Dave has now given an update on the band' studio progress. He told Rolling Stone yesterday (July 16) that they are focusing on working on tracks for the upcoming 50th anniversary reissue of their 1969 album Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire).
“That’s virtually done,” explained Dave, adding that the reissue would be released in time for the October anniversary. “It’s a really, really interesting package that’s going to have other songs from that time period like [my solo song] ‘Hold My Hand.’”

“We keep going backwards and listening to a lot of old stuff. Some of that is very good, and some of it needs a bit of work,” said the artist. “Some we recorded but never used. Others don’t have finished vocals or they need other embellishments.”
When asked about the material written by Ray, Dave answered that the songs “are really just in demo form now. But good demos. Ray is still dissecting various other material we might use. The intention is to get the work out, but it’s not a done deal."
