BBC Radio One maverick signs up Dublin’s Schizofonics. And other stories...
The hard graft has paid off for Shorty and Paul aka DJ/production duo Schizofonics. On the back of their recent armageddon-like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ remix - hammered by Basement Jaxx among others – Kissy Sell Out of BBC Radio One fame has signed them up to his new San City Records label to remix his forthcoming single in April. Catch up with their back catalogue at www.schizofonics.com
Speaking of Kissy Sell Out, his In New DJs We Trust concept has been adopted by RTÉ’s Pulse FM digital station. Hosted by Irish dance radio veteran Niall Redmond, the two hour show every Thursday night at 2 am will showcase the finest new talent the country has to offer. Pulse also begin a new Saturday night dance show this month entitled We Love Beats.
Volume Two of the An Taobh Thuathail compilation series is getting a worldwide release on Irish electronica label Psychonavigation at the end of this month. Based on the award-winning Radio Na Gaeltacha show of the same name, hosted by Cian O’Ciobhainn, ATT Volume 2 was a critical and commercial success when it was released in Ireland last year. Meanwhile Cian’s seminal clubnight 110th St is back in The Cellar, Galway City this Saturday February 27.
Fans of the tougher strain of dance will be gearing up for this year’s Kiddstock. The Kastle Knightmare at Bellingham Castle, Louth on Easter Sunday is the brainchild of hard house DJ Alex Kidd. It will feature three arenas of hard dance sound from 4pm to 2am.
A mini-festival with a more homegrown flavour in Dublin is planned for next month. The as-yet untitled event will feature a wide range of national DJs and producers with a number of local promoters behind it. Full details TBC – you heard it here first!
Arveene and Misk keep their recent remix momentum going with their take on Hystereo’s ‘City Speak’ being release this month on Australia’s BangGang12” label. Also forthcoming from the Dublin pair is a remix of breakbeat fiend Evil 9 on Marine Parade.
Dublin Clubbing Guide are set to host another of their infamous blacklight parties at The Good Bits on March 5. The blacklights in question are backed up with 4 UV Cannons, transforming the venue into a proper oldskool flouro-rave. Bring your bodypaint or you won’t be seen!
