The project's third single and accompanying video will be debuted during this year's Grammy awards.
Lady Gaga has announced her new album, Mayhem, set for release on March 7.
The project is pipped to mark a return to the megastar's "darker pop", and features the songs 'Die With A Smile' and 'Disease'. The third single, alongside an accompanying video, are set to debut at this year's Grammy Awards.
“The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved,” a statement said. “Far from a nostalgic throwback, Mayhem reinvents her early sound with a kaleidoscopic approach that draws from her expansive musical library while embracing a fresh and fearless artistic perspective. Gaga describes the creative process as 'reassembling a shattered mirror: even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way.'"
Last year, real-name Stefani Germanotta released Harlequin, a companion record to go along with her lead role in the Joker sequel. The thirteen-time Grammy award winner's last solo effort was 2020's Chromatica.
Speaking to Vogue in November, the singer gave some insight into what fans can expect from Mayhem.
“The album is chaotic from a genre perspective — it is genre-bending, and I think in that way is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music,” Gaga said. “When I write and produce and sing songs, I am always drawing upon my knowledge of the history of music, and so many artists and producers that came before me. In that way, this album is a celebration of a lot of the music that made me who I am, because when I returned to a darker pop style of pop, all my early experiences with music came out.”
