Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd is Lana Del Rey's ninth studio album, following 2021's Chemtrails over the Country Club and Blue Banisters.
Lana Del Rey just released new single 'The Grants', which is set to open her upcoming record Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.
Co-written with film producer Mike Hermosa, 'The Grants' features backing vocals from Melodye Perry, Pattie Howard, and Shikena Jones, each of whom was featured in 20 Feet from Stardom, a 2013 Oscar winning documentary unpacking the lives of background singers.
The track is a sweeping tribute toward the family of Lana Del Rey, who was born Lizzy Grant. With her typical soft and haunting sound, Del Rey sings the words: "My sister's first-born child/ I'm gonna take that too with me/ My grandmother's last smile/ I'm gonna take that too with me."
'The Grants' follows the releases of 'Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd' and 'A&W,' two additional singles off the upcoming album which is set for release March 24th. The record is a 16 track set, consisting of 14 songs and two interludes.
In a January interview with Billie Eilish, Del Rey accounted that she sought to capture a "spiritual element" with Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. "When I did Norman Fucking Rockwell! it was about world-building, whereas this was straight vibing," stated the 37-year-old Manhattan native.
