Lana Del Rey has revealed the artwork and tracklist for her highly anticipated upcoming album, Chemtrails Over The Country Club. Taking to Instagram, she also shared an accompanying statement about the diversity of the people on the album cover – which has divided fans and critics online.

"I also want to say with everything going on this year. . . no this was not intended – these are my best friends, since you are asking today," Del Rey wrote. "And damn! As it happens when it comes to my amazing friends and this cover yes there are people of color on this record's picture and that's all I'll say about that but thank you."

She goes on to describe her group of friends as "a beautiful mix of everything."

"In 11 years working I have always been extremely inclusive without even trying to," she continues. "My best friends are rappers my boyfriends have been rappers. My dearest friends have been from all over the place, so before you make comments again about a WOC/POC issue, I'm not the one storming the capital, I'm literally changing the world by putting my life and thoughts and love out there on the table 24 seven. Respect it."

The statement follows her series of controversial remarks in 2020, when Del Rey took to Instagram to voice her frustrations over critics suggesting her work tends to "glamorize abuse." In the post, she went on to name several musicians, including Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat and Ariana Grande, who she said have had "number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, fucking, cheating, etc". She later issued a follow-up statement, denying that her original post was attacking the artists she named, the majority of whom are women of colour: "I'm not the enemy, and I'm definitely not racist, so don't get it twisted," she wrote.

Chemtrails Over The Country Club follows 2019's acclaimed Norman Fucking Rockwell!, which was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys.

The music video for Chemtrails Over The Country Club's title track is set to be release today.
