The contemporary Irish folk group took to their social media platforms today to share the news
Folk heroes Lankum, have today announced that they are cancelling most of their 2024 France tour dates due to "ongoing personal circumstances affecting the band".
The band who originally formed in the early 2000s have had an explosive 2023 with their fourth LP False Lankum, which has gone on to defy genre expectations of a folk album with a Mercury Prize nomination, and with two nominations from the Choice Music Prize's for Artist of the year and the coveted grand prize of Album of the Year.
In a statement released on social media, the band acknowledged how well their most recent release is doing saying: "The incredible response to False Lankum has made this an exceptionally hard decision to make but the wellbeing of the band remains steadfastly our primary concern."
The band made headlines last year after a show of theirs in Germany was cancelled by the organisers due to the group's vocal and ongoing support for Palestine. The event organisers said of the cancellation that: "Lankum represents a political stance that we as a venue and festival do not represent."
Today's statement continues to say that: "Although we were able to complete 2 short tours towards the end of 2023, they confirmed to us that touring is simply not an option for us currently".

However, the group were announced for big shows in 2024, including a headliner at the inaugural one day Dublin festival the Meadows and a set at Barcelona's Primavera sound which they confirmed should be going ahead, concluding their statement with: "We would like to underline that Lankum will continue to play concerts, and we are not planning any further cancellations this year"
The concerts set to take place in Paris and Rennes are still due to take place as part of the group's 2024 French tour.
