Last Of My Kind
As well as him impressive multi-instrumentalism, Burch’s poignant, plaintive voice breathes life into outstanding songs like ‘Sun Don’t Shine’, ‘Electricity’ and the title track.
When Paul Burch’s neighbour, author Tony Earley, came to him with the idea of getting him to play some contemporaneous music to accompany a reading of his ’30s-based novel Jim The Boy, Burch instead asked if he could write some new songs based around the book’s richly detailed community of mountain characters.
As well as him impressive multi-instrumentalism, Burch’s poignant, plaintive voice breathes life into outstanding songs like ‘Sun Don’t Shine’, ‘Electricity’ and the title track. All would easily appeal to anyone who became enamoured with the music featured in O Brother, Where Art Thou?Combining the authenticity of the original music with the inventiveness of someone who has paid close attention to all kinds of worthwhile developments since then, Paul Burch confirms his status as a genuine talent with Last Of My Kind.
