late Night Travelling
There are few producers who make Detroit techno with any flair and originality. But Dutch duo Duplex are a notable exception.
There are few producers who make Detroit techno with any flair and originality. But Dutch duo Duplex are a notable exception. They’ve certainly earned their stripes, releasing techno-soul for the past decade. This, their debut album, glistens with futuristic intent. Like travelling at high speed in a fast car through an unending motorway tunnel at night, tracks like the metallic ‘Autosug’ and ‘Airwaves’ are the epitome of techno power, while the full-blooded, warm rush of ‘Cosmic Dancer’ scales the same utopian heights as early Dave Angel techno-jazz. The real acid test though is Duplex’s ability to employ new elements, which they pass with colours with the live drum funk of ‘Mysterious Unraveller’ and the hazy, Basic Channel groove of ‘Elevated Mood’.
