The forthcoming album, entitled Amelia, draws inspiration from the final flight of Amelia Earhart and its tragic outcome.
Avant-garde music legend Laurie Anderson has announced her upcoming album Amelia, which revolves around the tragic story of pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart. Due out on August 30th via Nonesuch, the new album is previewed by Anderson’s brand new single ‘Road to Mandalay’.
“The words used in Amelia are inspired by her pilot diaries, the telegrams she wrote to her husband, and my idea of what a woman flying around the world might think about,” Anderson said.
Her first full length release in six years, Amelia marks Anderson’s official return to the scene after her 2018 Grammy-winning album Landfall . Since then, the musical savant has joined Tenzin Choegyal and Jesse Paris Smith on the record Songs From the Bardo and recently received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Amelia will feature support from the Czech-based orchestra Filharmonie Brno, conducted by Dennis Ruseel Davies and consisting of nine talented musicians: Anohni, Gabriel Cabezas, Rob Moose, Ryan Kelly, Martha Mooke, Marc Ribot, Tony Scherr, Nadia Sirota, and Kenny Wolleson.
