This fortnight, Navan comic Tommy Tiernan will bid adieu to the summer in a one-off Cork marquee show.
As September, officially the second most depressing month of the year, approaches (evil January obviously wins that prestigious award), the ever-controversial Tommy Tiernan is on hand to see out the summer with a bang!
The comedian will perform his Crooked Man show on August 28 in a marquee on Cork city’s Beamish and Crawford site, as part of Murphy’s Little Big Weekend. The marquee will be up for the whole weekend in the ‘Brewery Quarter’, and there’ll be plenty happening to keep punters entertained, including live music, culinary showcases and a good old-fashioned trad session.

Back up in Dublin, there’s a Father Ted weekend happening in the Laughter Lounge on August 26 and 27. Former stars of the show Joe Rooney, Patrick McDonnell and Kevin Gildea will all perform live at the event.
Meanwhile, Louth comedian Alan Gernon is keeping himself busy this fortnight. He MCs two events – Slane Laughs (August 25) and Dundalk Laughs (26) in – yep you guessed it – Slane and Dundalk. The former takes place in Boyle’s pub and will feature performances by Karl Spain and Kieran Lawless, while the latter happens in Bru Bakers, and also has Gerry McBride on the bill. McBride will then get his skates on and head north for Big Laughs At The Big House, in the Pavilion Bar in Belfast, where he’ll perform on August 29 and again September 5.
In Kildare, Zocorro – Rose Of Tralee plays in the Riverbank Arts Centre on August 26. In this satire, the wannabe Spanish rose reveals all from behind the scenes at the Kerry fest, namely how the girls learn to “peel an apple with a knife and fork, and get out of a car without showing their knickers.” Essential life-skills for any modern woman we say!
