U2: "Lemon" (Island)
U2: "Lemon" (Island)
U2 are already parodying the place where The Harvest Ministers, in their own, thankfully very different, way are probably heading. I'm not too sure if this is on general release yet but if it isn't then it should be and, in either case, will more than likely find its way into the hearts and homes of all Italians everywhere irrespective of what the 'Fab Four' or Island intend! This edited version finds Bono and Co. Conjuring up a futuristic amalgamation of Al Green, Bowie, Talking Heads and, well, U2 I suppose, to produce a mellifluously moving apocalyptic sound buoyed up by one of their most intriguingly sensuous and provocatively sexual lyrics which sets up an idealised seductress as the saving siren of man in cyberspace. Somehow, though, I can't help feeling that 'Lemon' is another gigantic piss-take of technology and the media's pretensions to dominate and control rock music. So there!
