Dublin breaks duo Splitloop are causing a storm on the international breakbeat scene. Their acclaimed performance at the Breakbeat Awards earlier this year resulted in a headline slot at Fuse’s 5th birthday party in Manchester recently, and bookings for London’s best club Fabric and Supercharged in Brighton. The Supercharged label has also offered the pair a two album deal, and releases their ‘KFC’ single in June. In the meantime, the new Splitloop single ‘Hyper Hyper’ is out this fortnight on Bren and Phil’s own Musicdownstairs label. And the Splitloop remix of Stisch’s ‘Beauty In Me’ is currently getting key DJ support from Orbital, Plump DJs and Graham Gold to name but a few …
UK label Bulletproof has signed ‘Insane’ by Dublin hard dance producer Karl Davis. The release will include a new ‘4am Hoover mix’ by Karl, and it’s the third single of his that Bulletproof has signed. Karl is also about to ink a deal with new Redemption offshoot BHS for his ‘Human Behaviour’ effort, which will be paired with a collaboration with fellow Dublin DJ John Kerrigan, entitled ‘Fourth Dimension’ …
The DJ & Digital Music Academy (DDMA) is returning to The Digital Hub in Dublin on June 5th and 6th for its second weekend of intensive training in all aspects of the DJ profession, from where to buy records, to how to mix them, to producing your own at home. Individuals who run every facet of Ireland’s booming DJ and production industry are involved in the DDMA, which was co-founded by Arveene, Johnny Moy and Modern Green. FM104 presenter Al has been confirmed to appear at the Oxegen festival in Punchestown in July, and is launching a new Friday club Feet Treetz in Dublin in the near future. Gibbs, a resident at Spirit in Dublin on Sundays, is also behind a new Saturday club Blue in Longford. The next bash on May 29th features 2FM presenter Mister Spring … Mr Ray’s club The Soul Clinic bows out after four years with a party at Trinity Rooms on May 29th.
