The Scottish singer spoke about his experience of sharing writing sessions with The 1975's lead singer on Zane Lowe's Apple Music show.
Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi discussed a collaboration with The 1975's Matty Healy, along with numerous other topics, on DJ Zane Lowe's Apple Music show.
Capaldi and Healy shared studio time while the singer recorded his sophomore LP, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, which is set release in May of 2023.
“We wrote together for this album,” the Scottish musician told Lowe. “I don’t think I’ve mentioned it before. So I love The 1975 – I think they’re my favourite band just now, which used to be The Maccabees. I just love how (Matty Healy) is and how they are as a band in terms of the way he is now especially; he doesn’t give a fuck.”
Capaldi spilled the details of their initial conversation, saying: “He reached out to me on Twitter initially and said, ‘you’re class, you make me laugh, it’d be good to get together and write some songs with some funny lyrics.' I thought it was just a nice thing he was saying, and three years later I asked my manager if he’d still be interested, and he was.
“He showed me a really early demo of ‘Looking For Somebody (To Love)’, which I thought was amazing,” Capaldi recalls. “I played him my song, which is me over chords mumbling, and he goes ‘oh that’s amazing, who’d you write that with?’ I said I wrote it, and he said: ‘oh, you write your own songs?’ This is exactly how I wanted this to go.

“The song we wrote is really good, I love it and I listen to it all the time,” the musician stated.
Lowe asked Capaldi if the track had made the cut for the aforementioned second album. “No, because it’s proper weird and I’m not there yet,” Capaldi answered. “Maybe on the next record, we’ll get a bit freaky with it.”
