Guitarist Liam Smith gives an insight into the artist's side of Ireland's biggest festival.
EP is the mecca of festivals in Ireland, the one you want to play when you’re a kid. Last year, we played Trailer Park, which was insane. It was midnight on Sunday, one of the last performances, and it was chaotic in a really great way.
We also did the Hot Press Chat Room which was unreal. It was a massive surprise for us, because it was the first time we tried playing acoustically. It ended up being one of my favourite shows - the ones that happen spontaneously are always a pleasant surprise. During one of our sets last year, five songs from the end, a promoter came up and said “Lads, somebody’s after dropping out of the Salty Dog, are you able to do it?”
We’re onstage talking back and forth, and he says he needs us in five minutes. So we’re like, “Okay folks, this is our last song thank you very much.” Your man grabbed us by the arm and pulled us down to Salty Dog and we went straight up on stage. It was another spontaneous moment, where we didn’t even realise how much fun it was until it was all done and we were backstage. EP is brilliant like that.
