David Byrne
‘Like Humans Do’ [Virgin]
Claiming to hate the condescending catch-all entity that is known as world music, ‘Like Humans Do’ sees Byrne back on a similar observational pop tip to what informed all the best Talking Heads records. Forsaking salsa rhythms for subtle orchestral pop swishness, Byrne beams out funny little transmissions that simply aren’t supposed to make complete sense. Sample lyric; “I never watch TV except when I’m stoned like humans do”, and all sorts of wacked out surreal vignettes. A bit like a grown up Bloodhound Gang without all the annoying bits.
