The rapper teased the track with a parody of a fictional 'Lil Nas X vs Nike' trial, referencing his 'Satan Shoes' debacle.
Lil Nas X has announced the release of a brand-new single, 'Industry Baby', set to drop on Friday (July 23).
The new track is co-produced by Kanye West and Take A DayTrip, and features Jack Harlow.
The rapper announced the new song by releasing the beginning of what looks like the song's music video. This clip parodies X's trial regarding his 'Satan Shoes', a limited-edition collaboration between X and the New York-based art collective, MSCHF. Each of the sneakers allegedly contained a drop of human blood.
The shoes were inspired by the rapper's last single 'Montero (Call Me By Your Name)', the music video for the song saw X giving a lap dance to Satan.
The sneakers were repurposed Nike Air Max 97s, but after their release, Nike made it clear that they were not involved in the collaboration. The company then sued MSCHF, claiming that the “unauthorised 'Satan Shoes' are likely to cause confusion and dilution, and create an erroneous association between MSCHF’s products and Nike.” Nike and MSCHF quickly settled the lawsuit.

The 'Industry Baby' video sees Lil Nas X playing out a fictional trial between himself and Nike, with X playing every role: jury, judge, lawyer, and defendant. X pokes fun and the homophobic outrage triggered by his 'Montero' video, with the prosecutor dramatically asking him "are you gay?" X's juror character makes a clear statement when he says: "lock him up, throw away the key."
