Friends and fans are paying tribute to Lisa Marie Presley this morning – following news that the singer-songwriter has died, after suffering a cardiac arrest yesterday, January 12, aged 54.

In a statement issued to the Associated Press,  her mother Priscilla confirmed the news:

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," she stated. "She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.”

Lisa Marie, who was the sole heir to her father Elvis Presley's estate, released three albums over the course of her career: To Whom It May Concern (2003), Now What (2005), and the T Bone Burnett-produced Storm & Grace (2012).

She was previously married to Michael Jackson between 1994 and 1996, and Nicolas Cage between 2002 and 2004, as well as Danny Keough and producer Michael Lockwood.

Lisa Marie had attended the Golden Globes earlier this week, at which Austin Butler won Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his portrayal of her father in Elvis.

Taking to Twitter last year, she informed her followers that she had seen Elvis "twice now", and described it as "nothing short of spectacular. Absolutely exquisite."

"Austin Butler channeled and embodied my father's heart & soul beautifully," she added.

"We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Lisa Marie Presley," the Golden Globes stated online last night. "She was an extremely talented Singer/Songwriter and a very welcome presence at the Golden Globes this past Tuesday. May you rest in peace."

"I’m in shock," Bette Midler wrote on Twitter. "So beautiful and only 54 years old; I can’t actually comprehend it."

"Utterly devastated to learn of the hideously premature death of a surprisingly sweet, fierce, generous, talented and painfully vulnerable Lisa Marie Presley," the band Garbage posted. "I will treasure you always in my heart girl. Thank you for your kindness. May you now be granted peace."

"So sad that we’ve lost another bright star in Lisa Marie Presley," Octavia Spencer remarked. "My condolences to her loved ones and multitude of fans."
