Although Steve Wall lives in Dublin, he spent his teenage years in Ennistymon, Co. Clare - near to where Simon O'Reilly is now based.
Dublin-based musician/songwriter Steve Wall has teamed up with Co. Clare composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and Music Minds festival founder Simon O'Reilly on brand new track, 'Rise with the Sun'.
‘Rise with the Sun’ is a ray of light for the days when we all need a lift. With swirling pedal steel guitar and a sun-drenched rhythm section, it has echoes of the California sound of the '70s mixed with hints of Beck, Eels and a smattering of alt-country.
With lyrics exploring an honest and quirky depiction of a person’s struggle with will power and self-discipline and the challenge to stay focused; the genre-blending song is current and painfully relatable.
"I wake up and I try to guess, don’t even know what day it is / What’s the point in getting out of my bed / According to my calculations, and I’m open to negotiations / It’s gotta be Tuesday or Thursday I’ll bet," Wall croons on the track.
The pair collaborated on 'Rise with the Sun' over WhatsApp and shared files online, with Simon recording and mixing the song in his Lahinch studio while Steve recorded vocals in Dublin.

“It’s my first collaboration outside of The Stunning and The Walls and I’m really buzzed about it," Steve Wall says of the collaboration.
"It was refreshing for me to get music that someone else had written for a change and to see what kind of song I could make out of it. Simon was great to work with. We both have years of experience so neither of us is precious when it comes to the creative process and we were on the same page the whole time which helped“.
O'Reilly also expressed his delight at working with the long-time member of The Walls and The Stunning:
“Over many long conversations about all things music, I found myself to be in sync with Steve’s musical sensibilities and styles," Simon O'Reilly adds.
"We have a mutual passion for guitars, gear and everything encompassing the creative process. During the last two months, working on this uplifting song was joyous. I hope the song can do a bit of the same for the listener.”
O'Reilly has previously worked with the likes of The Contempo Quartette, Davey Spillane, Twin Headed Wolf, Kila, Luka Bloom and The Monks Of Glenstal. He has written music for renowned films and documentaries, including Sundance award winner The Summit, with his 2016 solo album Evolve earning critical acclaim. He is currently directing Out of the Shadows - an interview and performance series of films featuring Mick Flannery, Susan O’Neill, Wyvern Lingo and many more.
Steve Wall has penned some of the best-known songs in Irish rock music: 'Brewing up a Storm', 'Romeo’s on Fire', 'Half Past Two' and 'To the Bright and Shining Sun', to mention just a few. Wall also juggles a successful acting career, appearing in Ridley Scott's HBO Max film Raised by Wolves (HBO Max), RTÉ's The South Westerlies, Netflix series The Witcher and Sky Atlantic's Tin Star. The multi-talented artist also portrayed legendary jazz musician Chet Baker in My Foolish Heart, a film about Chet's final days in Amsterdam in 1988.
