English artist Michael Kiwanuka shares his first offering since 2019's Mercury Prize-winning album Kiwanuka.
Singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka has released his first single in three years, titled 'Beautiful Life'.
The song serves as the title track for the trailer of the upcoming Netflix documentary Convergence: Courage in a Crisis, which follows the unfolding of the Covid-19 pandemic. Re-telling a story we’re all intimately familiar with through eight different and unique voices; the documentary aims to spotlight the extraordinary actions taken by ordinary individuals.
Returning to the scene after a felt absence, only popping up with a few guest appearances, the indie-folk singer brings a spark of thoughtful optimism with the new track. The single seeks out the beauty in tough situations, making it a fitting match for the bitter-sweet Netflix documentary. Along with 'Beautiful Life', Kiwanuka also released the more subdued yet equally catchy 'All My Life'.
The 34-year-old started off his career as a session guitarist, working along-sides bands like Chipmunk and Bashy, before launching his own solo career. His first EP Home Again, released in 2012, saw wide critical and commercial success, going gold in the UK and getting the attention of the Brit Awards.
Since then the London-born artist has experienced continued success, supporting the likes of Adele on tour. His second record Love & Hate debuted at number one in 2016, while the latest album brought home Mercury Prize.
