'Spotlight' is the second single released as part of the artist's posthumous record, following 'Well Alright' in April.
This month sees the release of Songwriter, an album of previously unheard songs that the late Johnny Cash recorded in 1993, right before he linked up with Rick Rubin and had his grand late-career comeback.
The second single of the artist's posthumous album, 'Spotlight' is now available for fans. The track features guitar from Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.
At the time of recording, Cash was between record deals, and he laid down a set of mostly solo-acoustic demos of songs that he’d written over the years.
John Carter Cash, the artist's son, and longtime Cash engineer David “Fergie” Ferguson have fleshed those demos out with additional production and session musicians.
The posthumous album was made with the approval of Johnny Cash's estate.
Cash’s vocals for 'Spotlight' were first recorded in 1993 at Nashville’s LSI Studios, around a decade before his death.

John Carter Cash selected the demo vocals and, along with co-producer Ferguson, stripped the song down and handpicked a new group of musicians who had played with Cash during his lifetime to build a fresh arrangement. Selected players include guitarist Marty Stuart, the late bassist Dave Roe, drummer Pete Abbott, along with Dan Auerbach.
Songwriter will be available June 28 for streaming and download, but will also see a physical release on CD and vinyl. Different vinyl variations include standard black and several limited-edition colour variants.
