Steve Earle & The Dukes have shared the first single from their upcoming tribute album J.T. – featuring songs from Steve's son Justin Townes Earle, who died in August. Their cover of 'Harlem River Blues' arrived today, ahead of the full album on January 4, which would have been Justin's 39th birthday.
“The record is called J.T. because Justin was never called anything else until he was nearly grown," Steve Earle revealed in a statement. "Well, when he was little, I called him Cowboy. For better or worse, right or wrong, I loved Justin Townes Earle more than anything else on this earth. That being said, I made this record, like every other record I’ve ever made... for me. It was the only way I knew to say goodbye.”
Steve also announced that "100% of artist advances & royalties will be donated to a trust for Justin's daughter."
