The Aussie legends rock Dublin.
On a stage framed by giant devil horns rock overlords AC/DC treated a packed Aviva to an explosive greatest hits set last night. HP sharpshooter Kathrin Baumbach was right at the heart of the action; check out here gallery here.
Opening with latest album title track 'Rock Or Bust', they quickly got down to business dispensing classics like 'Shoot To Thrill', 'Back In Black' and 'High Voltage' with a gusto belying their advancing years.
Brian Johnson stomps across the stage with an all-commanding menace and vigor meanwhile Angus Young criss-crosses his path headbanging in his signature duckwalk. New additions to the line-up which visited these shores in recent years are Razor’s Edge-era drummer Chris Slade who at 68 belts out the beats with a remarkable ferocity and Stevie Young on rhythm guitar – filling in for retired uncle Malcolm – who kicks out the jams impressively.
The proceedings are not short on spectacle; an explosive light show accompanies ‘TNT’, a giant AC/DC bell swings over the stage for ‘Hell’s Bell’s’ and a voluptuous scantily-clad giant doll is the backdrop for ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’.
And then there is Angus Young. The extended solo he performs on the stage runway for ‘Let There Be Rock’ brings the crowd to its feet and when he lies on his back, still soloing ,explosions of confetti are accompanied by ear-shattering roars of approval. A true ledge.
An encore of 'Highway To Hell' and 'For Those About To Rock' send us home with ringing ears and faith in the redemptive power of RnR restored.
