Acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter George Hutton has shared stages with some of the leading lights of Irish music, including Glen Hansard and Moya Brennan – as well as Hozier, when they were both members of Anúna.
Folk singer George Hutton embarked on his solo career with the hugely successful debut album Chapter One, which was soon followed by the critically acclaimed Home. All the time, he was quietly developing his songwriting skills, which can now be heard in his new single 'The Light'.
Assisted by Paul Casey - with whom Hutton recorded with at his Cable Junction Studio - acclaimed musician (and former European Powerlifting Champion!) George kickstarts his beautiful performance with a loving tribute to his mother, Ann.
'The Rising Stream' is filled with Hutton's trademark lyric tenor vocals and folk storytelling, and features references to his childhood in Co. Derry during The Troubles. Next up his most recent single, 'The Light'. Written outside Kenmare in Kerry, the love song features whispers of "ó solas, do grá", which translates to "in light, there is love'. The track bares the talented singer-songwriter's soul, and contains nods to finding beauty in darkness and light in shade. Always packing an emotional punch, the gorgeous music video is well worth watching.
Performing a spine-tingling rendition of the Leonard Cohen-scribed classic hit 'Hallelujah', covered by almost everyone but most famously Jeff Buckley, Hutton offers a tender yet powerful touch to the song. An unreleased original 'Goodbye My Friend', focuses on the theme of longing and sadness at leaving a loved one. A fitting track for the current mood of the pandemic, as well as for those who can't return home for Christmas, the song is sure to connect with a wide audience.
Finally, Hutton gives us a rousing cover of The Dubliners' 'The Auld Triangle', offering a nod to the great Luke Kelly. "This is one of the first songs I ever learnt, and it's close to my heart," the musician says, before delivering a soft yet strong performance of the much-loved hit. With a reputation for stunning live sets cemented, George Hutton's solo career will continue to rise in 2021, no doubt.
