Revisit the acclaimed young artist performing live on Saturday's Y&E Series – supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
Having built up an impressive following performing on Grafton Street, Paul Jenkinson contributed to the acclaimed virtual rendition of 'One Love' last year – recorded by some of Dublin's favourite buskers during lockdown. After a string of well-received singles, he released his A Smile And A Wave EP in 2019.
The young musician delivered a range of cover tracks and original songs during his Y&E Series livestream, chatting to the audience members of 'familiar names' and new viewers in between songs. Kicking off with a soft cover of Ed Sheeran's 2011 hit 'Drunk', taken from his debut album '+', Jenkinson offered a chilled out vibe throughout before heading into original track 'Chasing You' (minus the saxophone instrumental).
A rendition of Harry Styles' 2017 track 'Sweet Creature' was up next - a difficult cover to perform given the high notes, but Jenkinson showed off his comforting vocal abilities before singing another original, 'Can't Help It'. Describing a type of toxic relationship which encompasses both co-dependancy and independence issues; the number is usually hectic, but Jenkinson slowed it down for the session with great results.
'Save' showcased the musician's rising piano talent, with lyrics centring on the hardship of long-distance relationships. The emerging singer-songwriter concluded with his take on Hozier's beautiful 'Cherry Wine', a favourite of Jenkinson's busking repertoire. Overall, it made for relaxing and easygoing viewing, we're excited to see Paul's future on the Irish music scene.
