Gracing the stage in mop-tops and classic matching grey suits, The Mersey Beatles performed over two hours of Fab Four magic in the 3Olympia Theatre, playing all the hits as well as some more obscure tunes for the die-hard fans in Dublin last night.
Comprising Mark Bloor, Steven Howard, Brian Ambrose, and Craig McGown (that’s John, Paul, Ringo, and George to you and me), The Mersey Beatles captured the essence of those four boys from Liverpool who changed the world.
When the group broke into ‘I’m Happy Just To Dance With You’, the sight of Paul playing the classic violin Höfner bass, while sharing a single mic with John to harmonise, was enough to make any audience member believe they were witnessing the closest to the real thing they could see.
With the stage lit red, love descended on the 3Olympia when the beautiful ballad ‘And I Love Her’ began. It was a heartwarming sight to see fans of all ages sing along to every word.

Speaking in Scouse accents, the group joked with the crowd about flipping over to the B side of A Hard Day’s Night before launching into ‘Any Time At All’, with George playing a red Rickenbacker, and John a black one.
The stage lights went off, leaving The Mersey Beatles in darkness. Then, clips of the Beatles going off to America played on the screen behind, and a video showed the group making their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, right before the lights came back on and they began playing ‘All My Loving’. The crowd’s adoration was palpable, as everyone chanted together.
After playing a few tracks from the Fab Four’s 1963 album Please Please Me, John, Paul, George, and Ringo performed ‘She Loves You’. Echoes of the crowd singing “Yeah…yeah…yeah…” still bounce off the walls of the 3Olympia, reminiscent of Beatles fans chanting it in 1964 in Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, 60 years ago.
Temporarily dashing off to grow moustaches and perhaps discover a psychedelic substance, the group returned kitted out in the iconic Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band outfits, before breaking into the album's title track.
After lead vocal performances from George, Paul, and John, drummer Ringo finally got the spotlight as he sang ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’. He also got by with a little help from the audience, who sang along to every word.

John requested that we all put our phone torches on and wave them in the air, making the band’s performance of ‘All You Need Is Love’ even more joyous and touching. With the 3Olympia lit up in pink, love was truly all around.
The group left the stage again, with Paul returning alone for a moving rendition of ‘Blackbird’. With the rest of the group’s return, they looked straight off the cover of Abbey Road, combined with the outfits the group wore during their iconic final performance, on the rooftop of Apple Corps in 1969.
While the crowd got to their feet to dance for ‘Get Back’, I closed my eyes and it was almost as if I were standing on Savile Row looking up as the Beatles performed from the rooftop above.
As the performance concluded, it was clear that Beatlemania is alive and well, and that the magic of The Beatles isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
