Thin Lizzy – as we know them today – took to Dublin's Olympia last night for a rip-roaring farewell show, and Hot Press were there to witness all the action...
There was an electric atmosphere in the sold-out Olympia for what was the final Dublin performance of this Ricky Warwick-led Thin Lizzy.
Just a couple of months ago the band announced they will not release new material under the name, and so the greatest incarnation of Lizzy post-Phil will be moving on to a different guise.
The lights go down, the Lizzy logo lights, the opening chords of 'Are You Ready?' blast out….let the adventure begin. And what a thrill ride it is. The outfit have been gigging intensively all year and this is evident in the tightness of the performance. Warwick has also grown in confidence and is a commanding frontman.
The classics are all present and correct, ‘Emerald’ is a full-on sonic assault, ‘Jailbreak’ is explosively raucous, ‘Still In Love With You’s guitar solos (the chemistry between Scott Gorham and Damon Johnson shines here) are a thing of brilliance and ‘Whiskey In The Jar’ sees sundry sing-a-longs and fist pumps. Throughout it all Brian Downey keeps things together at the back in his inimitable fashion (#under-ratedrockdrummerswhoaregodlike).

The evening is brought to a roof-raising finish with a majestic ‘Black Rose’ dedicated to Gary Moore.
Sublime.
