The wonderful Come On Live Long have charged out of the blocks with a fantastic, summer-tinged new album...
A big thanks to Come On Live Long for providing a shimmering summer soundtrack in the form of delightful long-player Everything Fall. It was launched in style in Whelan’s recently and if you missed it you can pencil in your live fix for their Castlepalooza set!
The record’s live instrumentation was recorded with Lisa Hannigan band member Gavin Glass (who’s readying his own new opus – whoop!) and engineered by Scott Halliday in Dublin’s Orphan Studios. Conor Gaffney of Nouveaunoise carried out additional mixing and production in his own Roscommon studio.
To date they have two EPs to their name and wowed crowds at Electric Picnic, Body & Soul and the Camden Crawl, as well as on their nationwide tour with We Cut Corners (who are also readying a new long-player for later this year – whoop again!)...
In other album news Glimmermen launch their debut, I’m Dead, on August 10 in Whelan’s, Dublin with support from The Dinah Brand and The Lie-Ins.
The band sprung Phoenix-like in 2010 from the ashes of a variety of outfts. Vocalist Gavin Cowley was previously a member of Boxes, double-bassist J Bassetti is ex-Jackbeast and drummer Phil Murray served with The Holy Ghost Fathers. Last year they impressed with EP Satellite People, garnering comparisons to Television, The Pop Group and Moby favourites Mission Of Burma.
The upcoming confection, I’m Dead, was recorded in Magpie Cage studio in Baltimore, USA last year with ex-Jawbox frontman J Robbins at the controls. We is excited!...
Roscommon quartet We Town Criers are on the cusp of announcing a street date for the imminent Swing Beast. The outfit, which comprises Dermot Kelly on vocals and guitar, Micheal Sheil on lead guitar, Pat Nolan on bass and Ronan Connaughton on drums, has been busy on the live front with visits to Other Voices Derry and Vantastival, in addition to a bevy of headline shows. The new title follows blistering single ‘Grind’ and EP Wake Up. Catch them this summer at Boyle Arts Festival, Sunflowerfest and Philfest Rewind…..
Tuam’s fine purveyours of punk-pop Strange Boats are gearing up for debut album Gnome, which follows on from their pogo-tastic Nice To Be Alone EP. The troupe are currently prepping for their UK debut in London’s Dublin Castle on August 17. Impressively they closed 2012 by winning Best Pop/Alt Band Of 2012 at the Music Review Unsigned Awards…
Tipperary trio Skyward Rifles have just released their first single ‘Price Of Spoons’. Recorded in Dublin’s Westland Studios with budding Limerick producer/engineer Owen Lewis (REM, The Killers, Lady Gaga), its influences range from ’90s dance to Motown to Manic Street Preachers. With a sound that’s hard to pinpoint you can expect the unexpected from this lot!
Dublin’s Workman’s Club plays host to a batch of not-to-be-missed gigs towards the end of the month. Dates for your diary include the rather excellent This Club who’ve just returned from a successful US trip and Eoin Glackin on July 26 who’s supported by the beguiling Nicole Maguire. Top stuff!
