The singer and Jack Antonoff are working on the follow up to 2017's 'Melodrama'
Lorde's loyal fanbase have been waiting for the follow-up to 2017's eclectic 'Melodrama', and now they finally have an update.
The New Zealand singer (real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor) emailed her fans about her progress with long-time producer Jack Antonoff, saying that her creative process halted following the death of her dog, Pearl.
During lockdown, she continued work on her newest album, which doesn't have a release date as of yet. In the email, she let her fans know that she missed them and "has never felt more spiritually rich".
"I realised the other day it had been a minute since we chatted, and I was missing you. Do you wear your hair long or short now? Did you take your piercings out? You'll probably be pleased to know my hair is big and long again," she lightheartedly opened the message, before noting that she has "never felt more in touch with the voices that guide. (Yes I'm a f***ing herb. Sue me!!!)," the 23-year-old wrote.
"I started going back to the studio again in December, just for something to do, and to my surprise, good things came out," she added. "Happy, playful things. I felt my melodic muscles flexing and strengthening."

Informing her followers that she wants nothing more than to "feed you treats, pop perfect morsels straight into your little mouths", she emphasised her need for quality over quantity.
“As I get older I realise there’s something to be said for the pleasant feeling of waiting for something of quality to become available to you.” Addresses her feelings on touring, the artist found “the combination of brutal stage fright and having no fixed home and no connection with what I ate or where I lived extremely grim."
Lorde delayed progress on her third studio album last November after struggling to cope with the death of her pet. Concluding the email, she expresses her excitement at seeing her fans in person and assures them that album number three will be worth the wait.
"I can feel all the care you have for my work, all the time you’ve spent listening and watching and decoding. And you can feel how deeply I care about you, how hard I try to make everything perfect so that I meet your hopes where they are.
"When it’s safe, I can’t wait to hug you again. The work is so f***ing good, my friend. I am truly jazzed for you to hear it."
