Her first new solo music in 4 years.
Lorde has announced a new single titled 'What Was That'. After a four-year break from releasing solo music, the New Zealand artist confirmed that the track will be “out soon.”
This marks her first original solo release since her 2021 album Solar Power. Since then, she has collaborated with Marlon Williams on 'Kāhore He Manu E' from his first Māori language album Te Whare Tīwekaweka, released a cover of 'Take Me to the River', and appeared on a remix of Charli XCX’s Brat track 'Girl, So Confusing'.
A few days ahead of the single’s announcement, Lorde joined Charli XCX on stage at Coachella to perform the duet live.
Lorde shared the news about the new single on social media in a short statement: “My new song ‘What Was That’. Out soon.”
One week prior, she posted a 15-second snippet of the track on TikTok, The video shows her walking through Washington Square Park in New York City while listening to the unreleased song.
