Lorde has taken to Twitter to clarify that recent comments she made in an interview were not about Swift.
"Taylor is a dear friend. I love her very much," says the singer, in response to reports that she had denied being a part of Taylor Swift's "squad."
In an interview aired by Australian morning show Sunrise, Lorde was asked about what it's like mingling in the same circle as artists she once idolised.
"The second you think too hard about it, you'll just go insane," the 20-year-old responded. "It's best to be like, 'we're in wonderland and it's just what happens around here.'"
She added: "Also, I don't hang out with these people at all."
It appears that her interviewer, David Koch, had been alluding to artists such as Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

"You're part of Taylor Swift's squad! All the magazines tell us," Koch exclaimed.
Lorde shook her head and said "you know, you make friends in different places. But I think for the most part I'm not, like, calling my idols for advice necessarily."
The New Zealander clarified in her Twitter statement that she had been talking about her heroes David Bowie and Patti Smith.

She doesn't hold back her annoyance with the press, saying "really shitty to wake up to headlines about whether or not you've jumped ship on someone you deeply respect and ride for."
Lorde goes on to express her frustration with the idea of an exclusive 'squad,' saying she considers it more like any normal circle of friends.

"Forgive me for the mild eyeroll I popped when it was brought up as if we're all blood members of a secret cult," the singer said.
