Whilst a release date hasn't been confirmed yet for the singer's fourth studio album, Lorde has promise fans it will be sooner than the previous four years it took to release Solar Power.
During an interview with Ensemble, Lorde spoke of the new project which is a follow up to 2021’s Solar Power. The 26-year old revealed that she actually has “a big chunk of work before I actually start writing music”, which includes research and “writing a lot down”.
“It has taken me quite a while [to start working on the album]. I mean, I do just take a long time,” she continued. “It’s been super exciting and I feel excited about what’s coming.” Although it took the singer four years to release Solar Power after Melodrama, Lorde revealed that the new album will be out sooner than the previous time frame.
“It’s always my intention to move as quickly as I f**king can. I don’t want to wait, so take from that what you will.”
Lorde originally let fans know a follow up to her last album was underway in June of 2022, telling her audience at a London show she was “getting nearer” to releasing nothing but “bangers”. Another update came months later as she told her following that she “kept working pretty much since tour ended, spending long days in a dark room”.

Explaining how the reaction to her last album made her “feel more clear and calm”, Lorde said, “Obviously, some people liked it, some people didn’t like it. I think the third album… you do sort of cross over in a way. You’re not new any more, and also you want maybe different things…I had real things I wanted that I just had to do with [Solar Power], and I feel more clear and calm for having done that.”
The singer-songwriter also spoke of her “rewarding year of touring”, discussing how “amazing” it felt “just be out doing it again”. This came after a months-long period of debilitating stage fright that had culminated in “a panic attack on stage a couple of times”. She eventually overcame the anxiety through “a tonne of therapy”.
Lorde has already completed the European, North American and UK stretch of her Solar Power tour, with dates in Australia and New Zealand scheduled for late February and March.
