The New Zealand singer-songwriter started her official journey into the music world yesterday with the release of her debut song ‘Threads,’ following the trailblazing footsteps of her older sister.
Indy Yelich, the 23-year-old little sister of the emblematic pop artist Lorde, released her first piece of music to date, ‘Threads,’ a dazzling electropop debut.
Speaking of the track, the NYC-based artist shares, “I wrote this song when I was going through a very on-off relationship for years. When I think of this song I think of a passionate argument, miscommunication, the excitement of New York City nightlife. A toxic, messy love affair. Flashbacks of the moments shared together vs. being out surrounded by friends, always caught in between.
“This song is so special to me as it depicts what being in love at 23 feels like; chaotic, hopeful, passionate.”
Merging evocative songwriting with synth-pop production throws the track into softer focus, its emotive lyrics relating to the delicacy of being young. “Now, at 23, I finally feel I know exactly what I’m trying to say,” Indy says.
‘Threads’ is not dissimilar to Lorde’s own explosive 2017 project, Melodrama. Fans were quick to point out the return of a nostalgic era in music.

Indy announced the single release on her Instagram, revealing how long the singer’s debut has been in the making.
“I’ve been secretly working away at music for 4 years and I’m finally ready to share this part of me with you. I knew right after we made it that this was the first thing that had to come out. I hope you love it as much as I have loved living with it this past year,” she wrote, alongside snapshots from the visualiser video.
