Ahead of the release of her highly anticipated third album, Home Video, tomorrow, Lucy Dacus has shared a moving cover of Snow Patrol's hit single, 'Chasing Cars', recorded live for SiriusXMU Sessions.
In a tweet posted last night, Lucy – famed for her work as a solo singer-songwriter, as well as one-third of supergroup boygenius, alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker – discussed her decision to cover the 2006 song:
"The pastor at the last VBS [Vacation Bible School] I went to made all the kids delete secular music off their iPods but I refused and tried to convince him Chasing Cars wouldn’t let the devil in, but I guess he was right lol."
'VBS' is also the title of a track that appears on Home Video. In an interview in the current issue of Hot Press, the American singer-songwriter reflected on her childhood years spent attending the Christian summer camps.
“It’s weird to realise what you thought was normal when you were a kid – because I can’t relate to the person who went to those camps anymore,” she said. “It was my whole life and personality for so long, even through high school. I feel like I’ve been doing youth again for the past six years, because I’ve had to figure out who I am without God.”
As part of her upcoming tour of the UK and Europe, Lucy is set to play a headline show at the Button Factory, Dublin, on March 21, 2022.
