The Cork singer-songwriter is back, with a cover of a Jackie Lomax tune.
After a star turn on TV for Songs From An Empty Room, Cork singer-songwriter LYRA has returned with an ethereal cover of Jackie Lomax's 'New Day'.
Produced by HUMN (Matt Newman) and mixed by Grammy Nominated Darren Heelis (Sam Smith, Tom Walker, Morcheeba and Liam Payne), ‘New Day’ is undeniably ethereal and highlights LYRA’s signature Celtic drum sound, piano based rhythms and magical, otherworldly vocals. The original track was produced by George Harrison.
"I have always loved taking songs people would never imagine I would sing and reworking them into my own style," she says. "I fell in love with the lyrics of this song and right now they hold a deeper meaning. We all need an extra bit of hope that there is a 'new day dawning'.
"Creating this cover, I wanted to take the listener on a journey with me, from the dark sparse storytelling in the verses, to the feeling of hope and standing together in a recreated middle section, to power of change and new beginnings in the last chorus. I have been overwhelmed by the amount of people contacting me to release it, so here it is."
