Legendary pop star Madonna is back with a Latin-pop-infused love song featuring Colombian singer Maluma.
‘Medellín’ is the first single from Madame X, the long awaited fourteenth album by pop icon Madonna. The track debuted as a part of Zane Lowe’s “World Record” radio show, only four days after the announcement of her forthcoming album, and features Colombian reggaeton singer Maluma. In it, the two perform a duet, using whispered call and response and singing in heavily auto-tuned Spanish. It tells the story of a drug trip that takes Madonna back to her teenage years, with Maluma playing her current lover, periodically chiming in with a 'te gusta' or a 'yo tambien.'
The video for the track will be revealed live during the “MTV Presents Madonna Live & Exclusive” event this coming Wednesday, April 24th. Madonna will also open up with British DJ Trevor Nelson about what inspired her to make the record, which she says was heavily influenced by a move to Lisbon, Portugal. “I found my tribe there,” she says of the city, “and a magical world of incredible musicians that reinforced my belief across the world is truly all connected.”
Madame X features a long list of producers and featured artists including Diplo, Mirwais, Mike Dean, Quavo, and Swae Lee, and will be released globally on June 24th. You can check out the audio for ‘Medellín’ and view the full track list below.
