The star was accused of making the tribute about her
Madonna has responded to criticisms of her tribute to the late queen of soul, Aretha Franklin, at the MTV VMAs.
The awards show, which was broadcast in the US on Monday night, saw Madonna take to the stage to speak at length about how much Franklin influenced her career.
Many people found the tribute insensitive and that it was more so focused on Madonna's career than Franklin's.
Madonna's outfit was also criticised for containing elements of North Africa's Amazigh garb. The star was accused of cultural appropriation when she donned gear of this style for her 60th birthday in Marrakesh last week.
She turned to Instagram to unapologetically explain how she loved her dress and that her speech was never intended as a tribute to Aretha.

The singer said she was asked by MTV to share anecdotes of Franklin's impact on her career. She said a tribute "could never do her justice in this context or environment."
Is this enough to regain the R-E-S-P-E-C-T of Franklin fans?
