Malaki and Tolü Makay combined their phenomenal talents on their new single ‘The Light’ which dropped today.
‘The Light’ is a song that reflects on success and happiness as it combines Makay’s soulful R&B sound with Malaki’s energetic lyricism. “Just want to feel alive / Tryna get my feelings right,” sings Makay in the chorus.
“It’s hard to recognise how far you’ve come whilst achieving so much mentally and musically. This track pays homage to the struggles I endured whilst trying to get to where I am today. Thankfully I have broken from the chains and become everything I’ve always wanted to be,” said Malaki. The duo debuted the song on The Late Late Show last week.
‘The Light’ “poignantly demonstrates their move towards finding self acceptance and celebrating progression,” according to a statement. The pair have been vocal about mental health in the past and Malaki explored the topic on his EP Don’t Forget To Take Your Medicine earlier this year.

The track was produced by Marcin and co-written by Matthew Harris and Chris Bubenzer along with Makay and Malaki. It follows ‘Head Highs’ and ‘The Riddler’ by Malaki, both taken from his EP and Tolü Makay’s last single ‘Behavin Like A Lil B**.’
The pair are set to embark on their own tours later this year with Malaki performing in Belfast, Galway, Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway. Makay will play three dates at The Grand Social in November followed by dates in Cork and Galway. The singer will tour the US in 2022.
