On July 12, Marc Almond will release his new album I’m Not Anyone, a covers album including songs from artists like Blue Cheer, Don McLean, King Crimson and many more.

‘Elusive Butterfly’, originally by Bob Lind, is out now. Almond has announced that he will go on a UK tour this September, visiting places like Leeds, London, Manchester and Edinburgh.

When talking about covers, Almond says, “I always approach curating an album of covers with a lot of joy as it means a year or so of listening to songs, old and new, making lists from which I add or subtract songs and in the process discover, or rediscover, some half-forgotten gems. Living now in Portugal, I've found the time to not only reflect on my life but to also rediscover my love for music and songs. A great song can never die and should always find a new life and audience.”

The album combines a variety of genres from psychedelic and prog rock, to folk, soul and gospel music. The artists that will be included on the album are Blue Cheer, Marmalade, Rita & The Tiaras with Gloria Jones, King Crimson, Bob Lind, Paul Anka with Sammy Davis Jr, Colin Blunstone, Mahalia Jackson, Johnny Rivers, Don Mclean and Neil Diamond.

“I don’t change a song too much, take it too far away from why I like it,” Almond says. “Too much emphasis is made on reinvention. I like to think that I’m bringing a song in a new light to my audience who might not have heard it before or haven’t considered it until they’ve heard me sing it. Then they may re-evaluate it.”

The title track of the album is Anka's ‘I’m Not Anyone’. Almond acknowledges that this music is not his, but he is making it his own. “I can’t simply just sing any song; I have to feel that if I could I would have written it myself… it’s just that someone else said it first, and far better than me.”

This year marks 45 years since Almond started his music career. Following the release of the I’m Not Anyone and his UK tour, Almond will go on tour as a special guest with Jools Holland from the end of October through Christmas.
