One of the greatest voices of Brazilian musical scene is due to arrive in Dublin later this month
Once an exchange student in Dublin, Brazilian singer-songwriter Maria Gadú performs her third career album, Guelã with her live band. One of the artists at the forefront of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), Gadú's emotionally-driven acoustic songs vibrates with a trace of Samba and Afro-Beat. Released in May 2015, the album Guelã was nominated for the 16th Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Album of MPB category.
The album was produced by Maria Gadú herself and besides the vocals, the artist takes on acoustic and electric guitar as well. It presents an original repertoire, new interpretations of songs from previous albums and a few surprises.
The tour has passed through the main capitals of Brazil, some cities in Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, Angola, Switzerland and now comes to Ireland.
Playing in bars since the age of thirteen and with her unmistakable voice, she became one of the most recognisable young names in new Brazilian music. Since her debut album self-titled Maria Gadú in 2009, she caught the attention of audiences and critics, being nominated twice for the Latin Grammy.
In 2010 Gadú played with Swedish-American singer Eagle-Eye Cherry in São Paulo and her songs were included in the soundtrack of several series and soap operas in Brazil.
