The indie-folk musician announced two upcoming shows, and will perform in Dublin on April 11.
Irish musician Maria Kelly has released ‘His Parents’ House’ today, the fifth single off her upcoming album Waiting Room – out February 28.
The song, inspired by boygenius, addresses the housing crisis in Ireland. It's lyrics tell the story of Kelly and her partner moving into his family's home – something common for many young adults looking to save money. She reflects on this reality, and the loss of her independence.
Kelly’s first single off the project, ‘Drive,’ was featured in the international trailer for Ezra, a film starring Robert De Niro, Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne and Whoopi Goldberg. She opened for Tom Odell at the Marquee in Cork, and performed at Whelan’s We’ve Only Just Begun Festival, the Galway International Arts Festival and her ‘Night of New Things’ at Bello Bar.
Growing up along the Irish coast, Kelly takes inspiration from the likes of Daughter, Laura Marling and Lucy Rose. She earned acclaim for her debut indie-folk record the sum of the in-between in October of 2021. Two years later she began her DIY Living Room Tour, a series of tight-knit gatherings of 40-50 people sharing stories and music.
Kelly will perform at the Dublin Unitarian Church on April 11, in addition to a second date in London on the 25th.
