The talented but troubled superstar, whose grandparents actually hail from Cork, has jokingly blamed her Irish opera singing mother's bad influence for her growing up to be a diva!
In an new interview with US publication 'Paper', Mariah Carey has admitted that her diva outbursts can be a "little intense" and blames it's all on her Irish heritage!
She also confessed that "people can't handle" her "diva moments"!
"I guess it’s a little intense, because I come from a true diva: My mother is an opera singer," she says of her mother Patricia Hickey was born and raised in Illinois, but who's parents were Irish emigrants from Cork. "And that’s a real diva, you know – Juilliard diva.
“And so other people that are like, ‘I’m a diva,’ it’s like, ‘Honey, you don’t know what a diva is, you didn’t grow up with my mom’.”
She also admitted, "Actually, I have had diva moments, and then people can’t handle it."
In a previous interview, Mariah once said this about her mother's Irish background: "She's so Irish, she loves Ireland, she's like, yay, Ireland! Waving the flag and singing When Irish Eyes Are Smiling. And that's great. I appreciate that and respect it."
