Band member Chris Davids has issued a statement on his rare brain condition, saying that "touring requires so much more love and energy that I'm currently able to give."
Following Chris Davids’ recent brain surgery, electronic duo Maribou State have announced the cancellation of all their upcoming live shows, as well as the deferral of the release of their third studio album.
The band was supposed to make multiple live appearances over the next few months, notably Stowaway Festival in Buckinghamshire and Lost Village in Lincolnshire in August.
As confirmed by a Davids’ statement, published on X yesterday, Maribou State are putting all artistic endeavours on hold for the time being.
“Over the past few years,” Davids writes, “Liam and I have hidden ourselves away to write our third album, a process which has not been an easy one. In 2022 I was diagnosed with a rare brain condition called Chiari malformation. It had been the cause of a mix of symptoms including; debilitating headaches, insomnia and bad mental health, which have been hugely impacting my life and productivity in the studio.

“After trying a variety of conservative treatments, I made the difficult decision to undergo brain surgery in November last year. The surgery, for the most part, was successful and the symptoms have now either been resolved or are in remission, however there were multiple complications that have since slowed down my recovery and presented me with new challenges, that five months on, are still ongoing.”
Despite this sudden cancellation, Davids has assured that he is making progress and that he wishes to get back onto the album as soon as possible.
The duo’s last LP, Kingdoms in Colour, dates back to 2018.
