'Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality." CW: This story contains description of sexual assault and grooming.
Yesterday (Febraury 1), it was reported that actress and activist Evan Rachel-Wood levied allegations of "horrific" sexual abuse and grooming against metal singer Marilyn Manson. Manson has now publicly denied those allegations, calling them "horrible distortions of reality."
The Westworld actor Wood wrote on Instagram yesterday: “I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail.”
“I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives,” she wrote.
Wood first detailed stories of an abusive unnamed ex-partner (which she has confirmed to be Manson) in 2018 before a House Judiciary Subcommittee, as part of an effort to get the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights passed in all 50 states.
Manson has in turn taken to Instagram to categorically deny the allegations, writing: “Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality.

“My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”
Four other women have come forward in addition to Wood, detailing similar stories of harrowing psychological, sexual and emotional abuse, violence and coercion at the hands of Marilyn Manson.
Manson's record label, Loma Vista, dropped the musician after the allegations came to light yesterday.
“In light of today’s disturbing allegations by Evan Rachel Wood and other women naming Marilyn Manson as their abuser," a statement from the label reads, "Loma Vista will cease to further promote his current album [2020’s ‘We Are Chaos’], effective immediately. Due to these concerning developments, we have also decided not to work with Marilyn Manson on any future projects.”
Manson has also vigorously denied allegations of abuse in the past, with his team releasing a statement on his behalf in November of last year denying allegations that Manson was Wood's abuser. Manson's former personal assistant and guitar/keyboard tech Dan Cleary has backed Wood and Manson's other accusers, saying in a Twitter thread in September 2020: "Thread: I worked directly with #MarilynManson in 2007-2008 for his touring band when #EvanRachelWood was with him. She was on tour with us the entire time. Over the course of 1 year he turned her into a different person. He broke her. I didnt totally realize until later in life."
He would threaten to kill her, cut her up, bury her, embarrass her to the world. Making her cry & fear him made him feel good. He would remind her that she’d be homeless without him and make fun of her learning disabled family member.
