"Having your brand associated with the normalising of genocide may be something you wish to avoid..."
Prominent Irish music industry commentator Mark Graham has written to "75 of RTÉ's advertisers" today, urging them not to have their brand advertised during the Eurovision 2024 broadcast – in protest against "the normalising of genocide".
Mark, who hosts the Irish Music Industry Podcast, and lectures in Music Technology and Music Industry at South East Technological University, previously wrote a piece, published on hotpress.com, about the calls to boycott this year's Eurovision, due to Israel's participation in the contest.
The group Irish Artists For Palestine have previously urged Ireland's Eurovision act, Bambie Thug, to boycott the competition, following in the footsteps of the Irish acts at SXSW.
In today's letter, which he shared a copy of on social media, Mark stated that he will be making a list of "all the goods and services advertised on radio and television during the event", which Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Irish Artists For Palestine will subsequently publish.

A Chara,
As you may be aware, The International Court of Justice has ruled that claims that Israel violated some rights guaranteed under the Genocide Convention were plausible and has called for a halt to any potential acts of genocide by Israel. This ruling has been ignored.
An 'Ireland Thinks' poll in February revealed that 79% of Irish citizens believe that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. One would imagine that this figure has increased over the last two months as we witness horrific live reports of the escalating atrocities being visited upon the people of Palestine.
Having your brand support, enable or normalise genocide is not a good look.
When the President of Israel intervened in the song selection process for Israel's entry in Eurovision 2024, the song contest became politicised. That intervention successfully requested that the lyrics of Israel's entry be changed in an attempt to circumnavigate the rules of the competition, constituting an explicit statement when it comes to the political intent of that country's entry.
I am contacting RTÉ's main radio and television advertisers to inform them that if Israel participates in Eurovision 2024, and the Irish national broadcaster airs the event, I will be compiling a list of all the goods and services advertised on radio and television during the event. The groups Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Irish Artists For Palestine have agreed to publish this list. Between them, these two groups have the signatures of tens of thousands of Irish citizens who participate in and share their campaigns to support the people of Palestine.
There will not be a call for a boycott of the goods and services listed, members of the public can decide to use the information however they see fit. Having your brand associated with the normalising of genocide may be something you wish to avoid, which is why I'm getting in touch in advance of the event and the publishing of the list.

I'm not suggesting you withdraw your ads from RTÉ, they need the money now more than ever given the fallout from the cross-party Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee (PAC) investigating RTÉ's finances. However, you may consider contacting RTÉ to check the scheduling of your campaigns.
More than 33,000 Palestinian citizens have been killed in the last six months. One third of those deaths are children, according to the Gazan Health Ministry. If these horrifying statistics remain true, then 20 Palestinian children will die while Eurovision 2024 is broadcast next May. Who would want their brand whitewashing that?
If you'd like to get in touch to let me know about any action your brand team have taken in regard to this email, I'd be delighted to hear from you. I would hate to include your brand on the published list if you have responded in some way.
I’ve written to @Bambiethug, Michael Kealy (RTÉ) & Noel Curran (EBU). I’ve published in @hotpress. Today, with support from @ipsc48 & @_IAFP, I’ve written to 75 of @RTEOne’s top advertisers to let them know what I’m going to do next #Eurovision2024 #followthemoney #FreePalestine pic.twitter.com/YlUASjz3ix
