The songwriter is also known for tracks such as 'Hooked on a Feeling', and 'Always on My Mind'.
Mark James, a renowned songwriter known for hits such as 'Suspicious Minds', 'Hooked on a Feeling', and 'Always on My Mind', has passed away at the age of 83.
James died on June 8 at his home in Nashville, as first reported by the Houston Chronicle.
"Mark's legacy and zest for life will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and through his timeless lyrics and melodies that have been the soundtrack of lovers for generations," his family said.
Broadcast Music awarded the songwriter the title of Songwriter Of The Century in 2000. The music licensing company went on to list 'Suspicious Minds', 'Hooked On A Feeling', and 'Always On My Mind' among the 100 greatest songs of the 20th century.
James won two Grammys in 1963 for co-writing the song 'Always on My Mind' with Wayne Carson and Johnny Christopher. The track was initially written for Elvis Presley, with whom James had a working relationship. However, Willie Nelson brought the track to international fame in 1982. A successful cover by the Pet Shop Boys followed. It was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008.

James also wrote the track 'Suspicious Minds' for Elvis, which became one of Presley's signature songs and his final number one. The track was later covered by Fine Young Cannibals and reached number eight in the UK charts in 1986.
'Hooked On A Feeling' reached number five in the US chart but Blue Swede's 1974 re-recorded version incorporated a catchy chant, securing the track a US no.1. The song has gone on to feature in films such as Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs and Guardians Of The Galaxy.
James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karen Zambon as well as his two daughters, and grandchildren.
