Legendary guitarist and former Dire Straits frontman, Mark Knopfler has announced his tenth studio album on his own British Grove label via EMI and Universal Music Ireland.

Knopfler's forthcoming record, One Deep River, which will be released on 12 April 2024, offers a dozen new songs featuring his familiar Geordie croon, his penchant for narrative lyricism and his immortal guitar riffs which are dazzling as ever.

Out today, the record’s first single 'Ahead of the Game' showcases Knopfler's famed lyrical storytelling set to his distinct travis-picking guitar riffs.

The title track mirrors Knopfler's nostalgic affection for the river that runs through his hometown Newcastle. Knopfler comments: "Crossing the Tyne is always on your mind. It's what you were doing when you were leaving as a youngster and that feeling is always the same every time you do it.

"You're heading out or you're coming back, and it just connects with your childhood. The power of it doesn't go away."

One Deep River showcases the bluesy airs of Dire Straits and Knopfler's earlier solo work, with syncopated walking basslines and fresh guitar textures. They draw from a lifetime of sonic influences in folk, blues, rock and beyond, revealing a depth and breadth of sonic mastery under the surface. Produced by Knopfler and his longstanding collaborator Guy Fletcher, One Deep River was recorded at British Grove Studios in London.
