Competing to represent the Czech Republic in Eurovision 2023, Markéta Irglová showcased her new single 'HAPPY.'
The Czech-Icelandic singer-songwriter Markéta Irglová performed 'HAPPY' as one of the five contestants in ESCZ 2023, the preliminary competition in the Czech Republic for Eurovision.
The National Czech Republic TV aired the five competing acts for ESCZ 2023.Voting opened during the show through the Eurovision app, and will close on Monday, February 6th before midnight.
It was the Czech Republic's first live national selection broadcast in 15 years. The broadcast was hosted by Czech actor and singer Adam Mišík in ČT's studio in Prague.
In 2022, Irglová also competed to perform for Iceland, which she holds dual-citizenship for and where she lives during most of the year. She still returns to Valašské Meziříčí in the Czech Republic, where she was born and raised, during the summers to visit her parents and sister.
Watching Eurovision with her three kids inspired to her to enter the competition.

'HAPPY' was chosen because of how it not only aptly reflects Irglová's current life, but because it is the sentiment she wants to share with the world during tumultuous times.
Also competing are Maella, with her song 'Flood,' Pam Rabbit with 'Ghosting,' Vesna with 'My Sister's Crown,' and Rodan with 'Introvert Party Club.'
Irglová is an Academy Award winning musician. She has three solo albums in addition to being a member of the band, The Swell Season, with Irish musician Glen Hansard.
She also starred in the film Once, an Irish romantic musical drama film about two struggling musicians in Dublin. Hansard was her co-star. She received the Academy Award for Best Original Song for her and Hansard's song 'Falling Slowly' from the film.
On Instagram, Irglová elaborated further about the chosen subject of her single.
"Happiness does not come from getting everything we want, it comes from appreciating what we already have. Starting with this moment, right here. Everything is precious, because nothing is forever."
